Our story

How we set out to simplify Power BI sharing

DataTako was born from a simple frustration: sharing Power BI reports with external users was way too complicated and expensive. Every viewer needed a Pro license, guest accounts required Azure tenant management, and branding disappeared behind the Microsoft UI. We knew there had to be a better way.

So we built DataTako — a platform powered by Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Embedded that lets organizations share dashboards with anyone, without per-user licensing. Today, we serve customers across 30+ countries, helping agencies, enterprises, and service providers deliver branded analytics portals at scale.

From our first prototype to serving customers worldwide, here are the milestones that shaped DataTako.

2022

The idea was born

Frustrated by the complexity of sharing Power BI reports externally, our founders set out to build a simpler, more scalable solution. The first prototype of DataTako was developed to prove the concept.

2023

Platform launch & first customers

DataTako officially launched with full white-label capabilities, sub-organisation support, and flexible authentication. Our first agencies and enterprises signed up and started sharing reports at scale.

2024

Rapid growth across 30+ countries

DataTako expanded internationally with over 1,500 reports shared and 15,000+ viewers reached. New features like scheduled emails, advanced analytics, and API access were added to meet growing customer demand.

2025

The #1 Power BI distribution platform

With 250+ customers across the globe, DataTako is now the leading platform for distributing Power BI reports. We continue to invest in new capabilities while staying true to our core values: simplicity, security, and freedom.
